Now that's all said and done, I've had a few hours to let the movie sink in, and now I can level-headedly talk about it. Level-headed being the most rational I can come up with within a few hours and watching it only once. Bear in mind, I do love to watch movies over and over again to keep analyzing all the small details one would only notice after the first time catching it.
My Views on Bella Swan a.k.a Kristen Stewart:
I think she is gorgeous. She has this very edgy look which is not at all generic and she can pull off high fashion. Her make up in New Moon trumps the hell out of her make up in Twilight (they made her look EXTRA plain in Twilight, and somewhat normal - like nothing extraordinary, but something to look at nonetheless- in New Moon).
What I REALLY didn't like though? Her expressions in both movies are EXACTLY.THE.SAME.
The whole "blinks really fast" thing is really getting on my nerves. It's the whole "One Facial Expression" thing that JJ and Ean and I talked about in the morning.
I kinda Tweeted that I was psyched about catching New Moon later that night and they decided to call me and ask me to explain the big hype on radio.
Overall, I think she pulled off Bella's breakdown really well. I guess it's pretty hard to be really close to Jacob without physical contact, but really, she looked like she was getting fresh with him every single time. -_-"
You don't wanna be with him but you pull his hair and put your forehead against his?! Yeah, like the adolescent boy isn't confused enough. Don't argue with me about the book etc etc, they hardly got frisky in the book okay.
Not too happy that Charlie was all comedian and I didn't like that they didn't show that Bella's breakdown and nightmares went on so long that Charlie just didn't bother checking on her at night anymore.
My view on Edward Cullen a.k.a Robert Pattinson:
MUCH better acting in this movie. Less stiff, more of that smile everyone likes. Yes, he is gorgeous when he smiles, but he DOES need a good shave and shampoo in his hair. I would totally do him, but only after that shave and shower.
Kudos Chris Weitz and gang pulled off the diamond-sparkling skin amazingly. He actually did look like he was sorta diamond encrusted, instead of Catherine Hardwicks' version which just made Robert Pattinson look like he was wearing and SHITLOAD of body glitter (EPIC fail).
On the other hand, RPatz, DUDE, you REALLY should have worked out a bit, doncha think? I mean we all know Taylor Lautner HAD to pack on the muscle to sustain his role as Jacob Black, but really - you do not look good topless and it was CLEAR as crystal that your abs were FAKE. Your "six pack" didn't even move when you were inhaling and exhaling when felix had you by the throat. Yeeeesh! I'm not saying put on 14.5kg of muscle, I'm saying tone the fuck up so you don't look like a complete idiot on tv instead of Adonis!
Neck up, you're still hot though ;) Call me.
My View on Jacob Black a.k.a Taylor Lautner:
*- if you're REALLY dating Taylor Swift, that's just WEIRD. Tay-Squared?!-*
Good job Jacob Black on the physical transformation and the natural acting. What I liked about his part in the movie is that he didn't seem to try too hard to act. Like it was an easy role for him to play and he just nailed it.
What I didn't like was how unbelievably stupid it was of him to take off his whole t-shirt JUST to wipe off some blood on Bella's forehead. Yeah...
"Hey, Dealer... if I were bleeding from the head, would you take your top off to wipe it off?" Okay, don't answer that, not funny considering what happened last year.
My Thoughts on the Wolves:
The final CGI did wonders and I liked how they stayed true to the books on the size of the wolves. I was trying very hard to figure out how the hell they'd be able to make the wolves as tall as a grown man without looking too... fake?
I didn't like how they didn't show much of her transistion and how she started fitting in with the Quileutes, but I guess they just didn't have enough time for that. Great scene at Emily's place though.
But hellooooo... that part where Bella SLAPS Paul?! WHAT THE FUCK just happened there?! yeah, that's right, Bella's repressed manic depression has made her some violent teenager that goes around slapping tall muscular men with anger issues. Right. (And what the hell was with that part where she took a ride on a motorcycle from some random dude?)
My Take on the Vampires:
I really hated Alice's outfit during the Volturi scene. Like REALLY hated it. She's supposed to be the most fashionable of the lot. Someone PLEASE tell me what was the stylist thinking that morning!?
I love the way the vamps look in the second movie though. Rosalie's wig was awesome, Jasper looked less constipated but I think I prefer his last look. Esme's eye make up and hair were gorgeous, Carlisle needs a wardrobe check. Maybe he can get one done with Alice. Emmet just looked big.
Victoria was kick ass and I loved her new hair. It was brighter, more like a fiery red and it made her eyes look really angry. I'm really upset that Rachelle Lafevre isn't going to be playing her in Eclipse, but I'm really excited to see how that plays out.
My favorite scene of the whole movie was actually an outtake of the book. It's the part when Edward's in Rio and finds out that Bella's fallen off the face of the planet. Sighhhh...
I was really looking forward to the action scenes with the Volturi, and errr... Well, let's just say that all the good stuff was features in TV spots and trailers.
Overall, the movie wasn't disappointing at all. I liked the new color filters and cinematography. I really liked the new speed sequences for the vampires. I just kept asking myself "SERIOUSLY???" at a few really silly scenes like when Alice shows Aro that Bella's going to be one of them, and the part where you see Edward for the first time in the movie. It was like a Volvo ad gone wrong with the wind and the corny entrance. GOD!
By the way, I've come to terms with the new BLACK Volvo. I don't give a shit, plus it's hardly in the movie. Hopefully it'll go back to being silver in movie #3.
This post will be edited in time with photos and links and all that stuff that I've been keeping tabs on through out the year.
In the meantime, I'm heading up North with the Average Crew for the long weekend. Have a happy one ahead!
